The Aspen Project
With a Phase 1 Commercial Operation Date in 2029, Aspen is a unique fast-track FLOW development located in the UK’s Central North Sea.
Facilitating the UK’s energy transition and climate objectives – Aspen is in a unique position to help the UK deliver its ambitious targets of 5GW of FLOW by 2030.
Basin-wide industrial decarbonisation – Aspen plays a critical role in enabling key Oil and Gas producing facilities to maximise decarbonisation via electrification and meet the objectives of the North Sea Transition Deal.
Aspen will enable the abatement of over 2 Million Tonnes of carbon emissions every year for up to 50 years.

Prime Site Location
Situated in the Central North Sea, the Aspen site benefits from world class wind resource with capacity factors over 60% and being in close proximity to a high density of critical O&G assets with electrification potential to serve the whole basin.
Located ~100km from shore, the site is well positioned to connect to the UK grid via an AC transmission system and benefit from the associated economic benefits.
The figure below shows the Aspen Project site location, which will be built out to 1GW capacity. The Aspen site was carefully selected. It is close enough to shore to accommodate AC transmission; it is located in the heartland of the Central North Sea most heavily populated by offshore O&G installations; and in a location least impacting the fishing industry whilst maximising wind capacity.

Aspen Offshore construction starts in 2028

Delivering for multiple stakeholders

The Aspen Project fully aligns with the strategic and climate objectives of all the key stakeholders that are required to support its successful and timely delivery.
The confluence of several critical factors creates a pivotal moment for the UK’s clean energy future:
- One of the first commercial-scale FLOW projects: The UK is poised to deploy its first large-scale FLOW farms through the TOG (Targeted Oil & Gas) leasing round;
- Clean Power 2030 plan: The new UK Government has an ambitious target to achieve clean power by 2030, including 5GW of FLOW power, providing a clear policy direction and accelerated timeline;
- Strategic Spatial Energy Plan (SSEP) connection reform: These initiatives aim to streamline the planning and grid connection processes, reducing project timelines and ensuring the right combination of technologies, capacities, location and timing for strategic projects;
- Invest 2035: the UK’s modern industrial strategy: A UK Government green paper which articulates that growth is the number one mission within the new UK industrial strategy; and
- Rapid growth in the global FLOW industry: For which the UK currently leads in terms of regulatory and technical developments.
Aspen will be constructed from 2027, pending full approvals.
